Julien is now considered one of the responsible doctors and does rounds on his own. He has been doing that since last week when the other doctors learned that he is now officially an intern. So he has more work and enjoys the hospital more.
It's fun to work in the same place because we both know the patients (actually I know them better because see all of them, talk to the parents and read the medical files) So several times the social worker had questions about the importance of an exam and it turned out that Julien was affected to that room and looked into it and changed the prescription.
What I do is mostly encourager for social worker. Since last Friday one of them is of work because she is way to tired stressed and pregnant. Needless to say that the other one (who is younger and only there since April) is a little overweld (if you can imagine that of a Malagasy).
Their job at the hospital is very demanding emotionaly. For example, two mothers they were working out a finantial plan for left the hospital without worning anyone and of course with out paying their part. So the responsibility falls on the social worker to pay for the outstanding charges, but with no fund it is very difficult.
Last week Nirina (the younger one) and I brought a baby's body for an autopsy at another hospital. This baby had been brought in by a neighbour who had found her in the public toilet (understand a deep hole with two boards over it turkish style). The baby was coverd with soars from the worms that had eaten on her, she was sufficating from the intoxication. She had been thrown in by her mother a few hours after birth. The social worker had to care for her replacing a parent (the parents at the hospital are in charge of bathing, clothing and feeding) and fill out all the legal papers. But she didn't make the night. The neighbour who had been given the tutorship by the juge didn't come claim the baby so it was up to us to bring her for the autopsy.
This morning we accompagnied a baby and her older sister to another hospital for an exam we didn't use an ambulance but the public bus.
